Are you champing at the bit for a fun time to watch the Kentucky Derby?
Avalon does a fun job each year of hosting a Kentucky Derby Party.
If you area a Black Avalon Card holder you can go to a gated off party with free drinks and food. This area is a more dressed like you are going to the real Derby.
In years previous, the general public can go to the open area by the movie theater and guest relations, next to the gated off area. in 2021 due to covid you had to pre-purchase tickets.
You can dress up or not, but don't forget your hat!
They sell drinks, even Mint Julips and have a huge TV for everyone to watch the Derby on.
They have a band that plays music to entertain before the race and they have specials throughout Avalon
.
This is event is kid and dog friendly. Some people even bring their own lawn chairs.
You can buy tickets, which is a donation to a charity,(in 2019 it was $2 a ticket or 4 for $5) and put it in the basket for the horse you think will win. They will then draw one ticket from the First Place horse name basket, Place Horse basket and Show horse basket. You must be present to win.
This is geared more to adults, but we have brought my son there before with friends.
