Buffalo, New York

Updated: Feb 28, 2021

We took a trip to Niagara Falls and flew through Buffalo, New York. It was a great city to see, although we were there less than 24 hours. We drove back to Buffalo and went to eat lunch at the Anchor Bar. We then went to Theodore Roosevelt's Inaugural Museum which was aroudn the corner. Then we drove to check out the water area about 3 miles away. Drove to teh hotel, had dinner over there and then checked in for the night. The hotel has a free breakfast in teh morning. We then went to the airport, returned our car and then went to our gate.

There are some There are some toll roads if you drive outside the city. Before you go dial **826 and register your car or after you get your rental car do this. We went over a toll road driving to Niagara and this helped let us charge the toll to a charge card so we did not get an extra fee. You do need the license plate number of your car so you may have to do after you rent it. There is no booth to pay for it I think it was $3.75.

Buffalo Niagara International Airport

Living in Atlanta, this airport feels small. We basically walked right up to the gate to check our bags, TSA was quick and they did a great job announcing over the intercom if people forgot items. After TSA is where you can get a ride on a golf cart to your gate if you need it. My mom used this service and my son and I walked to the gate to stop in the stores along the way. There are bathrooms everywhere and companion bathrooms have the changing tables. They even had a fake dog park for dogs! Delta gates are at the end and there are 4. They have outlets around for you to charge your items near the seats. The bathrooms are also right near the Delta gates as is Which Which if you want to grab a sandwich for the plane. There was no Delta club here. The car rental place is literally out the front door of the airport and you cross the street. You find which company you used check in and then you go down one floor in an elevator to the car below. It was easy to return the car too. Follow the car rental signs into the airport when you are leaving Buffalo. At one point the lane they want you in splits in two, take the left lane there and you drive right under the car rental deck. Find what company you rented from and then park there. They will come out to you. We used Costco to rent our car and it was easy and cheap. With Costco you do not have to pay then you reserve it, so if the price goes down, cancel it and rebook at cheaper price before your trip.

Hotel Marriott Fairfield Buffalo Airport

We stayed the night before our flight across the street from the airport at the Fairfield Marriott Buffalo Airport. It was reasonably priced. They have a shuttle to the airport, free breakfast, gym and indoor pool. There were few restaurants near here so we drove a few miles away to eat dinner

Anchor Bar home of the chicken wing AKA Buffalo Wings

Want to go to the birth place of the original chicken Wing aka Buffalo Wings? Then go to Anchor Bar. They have pictures around the place of famous people who have been there since they opened in 1935, Britney Spears, Elvis and more. You receive a newspaper type menu. The food came out fast and the wings come with a bowl on it. It was neat to walk around and look at the pictures, my son loved they had a phone booth here. Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site is a few blocks away

Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site

Want to see where Thedore Roosevelt was inaugurated? It is located a few blocks from Anchor Bar if you go there. This is where Theodore Roosevelt was inaugurated after McKinley was shot and died. It was his friends house, the Wilcox's. We had an amazing tour guide who gave lots of great details and our 15 imn tour turned Ito an hour. You actually get to see the room where he was inaugurated, the library. There is a fun junior rangers activity book you can ask for and if you finish it you get a badge. My 9 yr old son enjoyed doing this. When you pull in, it looks like an atm go on the right side and the parking is in the back. This is a national Park area so you can get a stamp in your park passport or use a National Park pass to get in.
